Blank / Erase Disc Wizard
Guided step-by-step workflow for erasing rewritable discs or formatting blank media.
Step 1: Select Drive
Choose the optical drive containing the rewritable disc. The wizard shows:
- Drive model and firmware
- Media type detected in the drive
- Compatibility warnings (e.g., if the disc is write-once and cannot be erased)
Click Next to proceed.
Step 2: Erase Options
Quick Erase
Erases the Table of Contents (TOC) and PMA only. Fast (seconds), but old data remains physically on the disc.
Compatible: CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, BD-RE, HD DVD-RW
Full Erase
Writes zeros to the entire disc surface. Complete wipe but slow (15–60+ minutes).
Compatible: Same as Quick Erase
Note: BD-R and DVD±R are write-once — they can be formatted but not erased.
Step 3: Execute
The wizard shows:
- Progress bar (indeterminate for full erase)
- Estimated time remaining
- Status messages
- Detailed operation log
Click Cancel to abort at any time.
